Flying Christians

These are in fact three separate emails I sent to one of my editorial cartooning buddies. He mentioned the fact that he thought our foreign policy was being overtaken by Israeli foreign policy. He specifically mentioned Richard Perle, that Perle had been on the Board of Directors of the Jerusalem Post and was now an influence on our Defense Policy Board. Most probably, Perle has dual citizenship. Anyhow, that's good and fine except that there is a strong evangelical element in our country which closely mimics Israeli concerns. So I mused a little on what this might mean.

Oh, and I am quite convinced that Bush's foreign policy is meant to end with a bunch of flying Christians. So far, he's doing a fantastic job.

We're talking one nutcase here.

With bush, we're talking about seventy million americans who actually believe in flying Christians. The trouble with religion, is you can't argue with bullshit. bush, of course, has built his entire executive office career on bullshit, wherein lies his brilliance.

A lot of cartoonists like to make Cheney into a guy lording it over a small, insignificant Bush. However, if you delve into Cheney's background, you find that he was in good part responsible for not attacking iraq in 1991, as well as for the excessive executive compensation at EDS while he was on the board of directors. In short, his leadership abilities are suspect. If you delve even further, you'll find that there is no one of any importance in the energy industry who hasn't at one time either sat on the Halliburton board of directors, or conversely, who hasn't had someone from Halliburton involved in their enterprise. Cheney defines crony capitalism. Just think of how he did Ken Lay's bidding by complaining to the indians that they all should just shut up and pay the higher Enron prices for energy or else. This is leadership?

On the other hand, Bush traipsed down to Argentina prior to becoming president in order to defend the money of his budddy Tom Hicks. Argentina went into default and never got any IMF money or anything. Fuck you, says Bush, the inconsequential.

He has a way with countries, that Dubya. And he is one of those guys who actually believes in flying christians. I suppose his whole foreign policy cabal will be negotiating in Jerusalem at the very moment this happens. Tant pis, as the french say. they should have converted prior to the bombing.

Anyhow, since the Bush administration is nothing but Bullshit, one can only guess at their true motives. All I know for true is that it's stacked with corporate criminals and dispensationalists, with the only Jews in sight piled into some foreign policy ghetto.

I just woke up to the sound of the TV anchor talking about the US getting someone called Dr. Germ. For a moment, I thought I'd woken up in a comic book, or maybe a Batman movie. I remember a couple of weeks back there was a report about Chemical Ali. So after I realized I was actually in my own studio, I heard the president giving a speech in which he mentions what I guess is the Junior Axis of Evil, Unfriendly nations. I wish I was more awake, but I thought to my self, that we've been swallowing bullshit about evil doers and axes of evil, so really, how far is all this from Flying christians.

As I said before, there are about seventy million Americans who are dispensationalists. At the core of the belief in flying Christians is the belief that the world by rights belongs to Christians and no one else. Tom deLay is one of these people. Bush is one of these people. In another, less comic book place, we would call these people racists. Or worse. Racists in power once upon a time were called Nazis.

So much nicer to dress up racism in the colors of a comic book. Makes it lovely, makes it palatable, makes it heroic.

Well, I'm going back to sleep.
